Who Ya Gonna Call?

Posted by Joe Pasma on February 4, 2021

The 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) has recently been published. Many builders and building related groups are concerned about the effect the adoption of this model code will have on the building industry and those looking to construct buildings. It has been stated that it will take several decades to achieve a payback due to these changes.

Two of the most noteworthy changes are:

  1. Increased prescriptive attic insulation: R49 in Climate Zones 2-3 and R60 in Climate Zones 4-8.
  2. Increased prescriptive above-grade wall insulation: R20+5 or R13+10 in Climate Zones 4 and 5.

Oh, heavens what are we going to do?

It reminds me of the mid 1980’s phrase “Who Ya Gonna Call? GHOSTBUSTERS!”

In this case, Who Ya Gonna Call? Enercept.

Enercept is a manufacturer of Structural Insulated Panels, SIPs. Enercept SIP panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB).

Enercept 6” wall panels and 12” roof panels meet the requirements of the 2021 IECC all in one step.

Who Ya Gonna Call? I’d suggest Enercept.
