New Home Construction Using Enercept SIP Wall Panels Earns Recognition
April 12, 2012 – The Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA) recognized nine homes and commercial buildings that demonstrate the high levels of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability achievable with SIP construction during the 2012 Building Excellence Awards ceremony, held at the SIPA Annual Meeting & Roundup in San Antonio, Texas. Earning the Honorable Mention Award in the category of Single Family Homes over 3,000 sq. ft. was a home built by The Chuba Company, Elk River, MN. The Newman Residence, designed by Mackey-Malin Architects features Enercept Structural Insulated Wall Panels manufactured in Watertown, SD.
In addition to the energy efficient Enercept wall panels the home uses a Vertical loop geothermal HVAC system with energy recovery ventilator and humidistat, solar generation, a Thermomass foundation, and spray foam roof insulation. The overall energy performance has been tested and earned a Home Energy Rating Score (HERS) Index of 7, indicating that the home is 93% more energy efficient than a typical home.
Enercept has been manufacturing structural insulated panels for 30 years; The Chuba Company is an Independent Dealer for Enercept. This is the 10th year that SIPA has been recognizing SIP builders and manufacturers with the Building Excellence Awards.
