Jan was raised in this house and her dad always told Dean that it took 10 gallons of fuel oil per day in the winter. After her folks passed away, Dean and Jan bought the farm site and moved in. They lived there two winters before adding on. Dean said Jan's dad was right, in that it did take 10 gallons per day. The last two winters now, with the addition on, he said it runs less than 8 gallons per day (see the following testimonial). The new addition is 1.55 times bigger than the old existing, so if we use 10 gallons per day figure that should add 15 gallons per day to the 10 gallons or a total of 25 gallons per day. But, instead the consumption went down and now is actually less than before. - Denny Morgan
Testimonial from Dean and Jan Hoeve
"After living in the new part for a year, here are the things that we found:
1 For ease of construction, by putting it together, routing of wiring the strength of the walls along with the sealing of the joints made it very easy for us to do this project without hiring it done.
2 We found this product to be well made - the walls, the floors, roof - everything came together with a precise fit and made a tight seal that helped us to finish the outside with siding and the inside with drywall - etc. without trying to patch to make it work. It has been fun to explain the product to others and watch their amazement when you explain and tell how efficient our home has become.
3 We increased the size of our original house by 1.5 times. The heating cost went down by 2 gallons per day in January and February during the coldest days. 10 gallons a day down to 8 gallons a day.
4 We don't have anything to compare in the cooling - we have found that the original house is warmer and we can go into the addition and feel a definite difference - it is cooler and more comfortable - this is when the temps. are high outside.
5 We have been amazed at the silence. Traffic, wind, rain is hard to hear. It has to be hitting really good on the north side that has windows so we know something is going on outside. The road is on the south side of the house.
6 Our family has enjoyed the addition. The house is tight, even our basement is warmer and the furnace is in the original part of the basement.
7 We can't say enough wonderful things about Morgan Building and Equipment - they made our dream come true and we have a wonderful home to enjoy."
