This home, located in North Dakota, caught on fire while the owner was on vacation. The walls were constructed using Enercept Structural Insulated Panels; they used trusses for the roof. Although most of the home sustained extensive damage, the exterior walls remained standing with little damage.

ABSTRACT

A bearing wall assembly consisting of a base wall construction of 7/16 inch OSB facing over a 5-1/2 inch thick core of EPS foam and structurally supported with 2×4 wood studs located at each joint, with 2 layers of 5/8″ Type X gypsum wallboard applied to both sides of the wall, assembled and tested as described herein, successfully met the conditions of acceptance as outlined in ASTM Method E119-98 FIRE TESTS OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS for a loadbearing fire endurance rating of 60 minutes.

ABSTRACT

A roof/ceiling assembly consisting of (5) pre-constructed sandwich panel sections, assembled in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and tested as described herein, was tested in accordance with ASTM E119-98 FIRE TESTS OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS under unrestrained, loadbearing conditions. The roof/ceiling assembly was tested under a superimposed live load of 30 pounds per square foot and achieved a fire resistance rating of 60 minutes.
