Tips for building with SIPS

Helpful Tips For Building With Enercept SIPS

  1. Plan ahead:  Enercept SIPs are fully customized, so it is extremely important to plan ahead.  Plan for electrical chases in advance to prevent time consuming and sometimes costly or damaging job-site modifications. Plan for equipment needs.  Are you installing roof panels or tall gable-end panels?  You may need a forklift or crane to unload and install them.  When in doubt be sure to ask one of our Enercept professionals.

  1. Organize SIPS when they arrive:  Panels shipped from Enercept are loaded for optimum use of space (to save the customer additional freight charges) and will probably be loaded in chronological order.  You’ll want to sort the panels by number when they arrive.  Find a level spot to store the panels and set wood blocks so the panels are not setting directly on the ground.  Be sure to give them sufficient support.  And, always, keep SIPs dry during storage covering them with a breathable protective covering.

  1. Read the Enercept Construction Guide and follow instructions:  We have over 30 years of experience in the SIPs Industry, use our experience to make your life easier.  Our customer service department is available to answer your questions, so call us if any questions come up during the installation process.

  1. Protect your SIP panels:  Weather is a factor in any building project.  Once installed, seal the interior connections with seam tape and use house-wrap to protect the exterior walls from moisture.  Make sure all window and door openings are properly flashed and back-fill is properly filled to direct water away from your structure.  In addition, Enercept recommends the use of an air exchanger in all SIP structures.
